Scrap Pirate Cyber Turtle (WIP)

A face only a mother could love

There's a lot of bits on that turtle. And we're not done yet.

I'm happy with the nice tangle of wires and tubing on this quadrant

You can't have pirates without a hook hand!

The section under that pipe still needs the most work

All the red cables are guitar wire that I got free by the handful at Guitar Center by asking nicely for broken bits

Sump Trawlers - The Beginning (WIP)

Quick preview of a gang I'm working on that should serve double duty. Their primary use will be as "Orlocks" in a local N17 campaign that kicks off this weekend, in which they'll be members of a guild that patrols and maintains/repairs the labyrinth depths of the sump levels. But they'll also probably get some screen time as a Mare Solum crew on the open seas!

Left to right: ganger with autogun and demo charges, juve with autopistol,
champion with blasting charges, champion with harpoon gun

Better angle on the juve

Creepy servitors!

Unfortunately, since the servitors don't get to be in the gang yet (they'll be hanger-ons later), and I'm planning on starting with eight models, that's another four that I need to finish building before Sun. And somewhere in there I need to find time to paint at least one model as well to meet the first-day requirements. It's going to be a busy week!

Inq28 - Ash Wastes Strider (WIP)

Sometimes you see a bit of inspiration and just KNOW. In this case, I ran across this piece of art by James Flaxman years ago. At the time I had no idea what I'd do with it, but saved it off in a gallery of inspiration, knowing that someday it would come in handy. I probably scrolled past it 50 times or more over the course of the years until one day I was explaining my creative process and it just sort of hit me. I suddenly knew exactly how I could create an homage to the piece.

Posted Image
Just look at this adorably creepy little guy
And there's plenty more Inq28 inspiration where that came from

Parts list so far:
- Ghoul torso, arms removed (Mantic)
- Zombie legs (Mantic)
- Slaanesh Hellstrider blade arms (GW)
- Chaos Cultist gas mask (GW)
- Skaven Stormvermin spears (GW)
- A bit of metal cable (Dragonforge)

A little more tech-horror than the inspiration image, but of course, that's what's "beautiful" about 40K.
The pose ended up reminding me a lot of the landstriders from Dark Crystal
Not sure if it'll get spikes or something similar to the piercing stakes.

May add bandages where the ankles meet the spear hafts, may not. We'll see.

A mysteriously anachronistic warrior for scale.

Unfortunately, this little guy is pretty low on my priority list in terms of getting finished up or painted. But when I finally get around to making a warband of ash wastes travellers he'll get the love he deserves.

Cheers!

Epic - Astartes War Engines (WIP)

Very small update here mostly just showing that I'm still alive and kicking. I've got the base colors blocked out on one of my Thunderhawks, and most of the white base for one of the Warhounds.

Here you can see that the T-hawk has two magnetized bases, one for flying and one for landed mode.
(The Warhound is missing its arms because they're also magnetized and I forgot to put them on.)

Just these two to go, and then another pair of the same, and that's a finished 3K list. Sweet, sweet progress.

Cheers!

Epic - Dark Angels Conversions (WIP)

After a bit of a hiatus for other projects, I'm back to working on Epic stuff. Currently on the work table are Dark Angels. Since Photobucket decided to eat everyone's image displays, here's my Minigeddon list as it stood:
Tacticals and Scouts, plus Speeders and Bikes with experimental DA list upgrades
I'm planning on bringing these to Adepticon, which means I need to switch gears a little away from the experimental units and into the Codex Astartes framework. The Darkshroud Landspeeder, for example, is going to be used as a Landspeeder with Chaplain (not an optimal choice, but it looks extra grimdark, which is really what matters here). Also planning on redoing the bases to a more overgrown outdoorsy theme (similar to my Saga Vikings). That's enough rambling though, so here's the next wave of wip gothmarines:

Hunter (with Shapeways turret) plus Supreme Commander

Landspeeders

Shapeways Nephilim, aka "Thunderbolts"
Everyone loves deathwing! (Vanguard Novan Elites Affray Heavy Armor)

Ancient Chapter Relic Warhounds

I kept asking myself "How can I make these more ostentatious and ridiculous?" as I was building them.

Thunderhawks need bling too (Shapeways model)

Let's just casually put 6-meter tall angel statues over the wings. They're aerodynamic!

Cheers!

Saga - Irish Personalities (WIP)

Who doesn't love the Irish? They're just so...heroic (and bristling with little pointy sticks).
Here's a collection of WIP Irish builds for some of the more dramatic elements of the warband:

Warrior Priest. This bad boy is built off of the Gripping Beast Irish standard bearer and wooo is he BIG. That's a 40mm base and even at the extreme running angle he still stands taller than most of the other Irish lads. The better to put the fear of Jesus into his enemies! And of course he needed a little friend to help spread the gospel.

Next in line are the Curaidh; the clans heroes. These fellows started life as a Welsh standard bearer (left) and a Christian priest (right), both from Gripping Beast. A few javelins and some hairstyling later, we've got this.

Finally the Warlord. I used the Fat King Robert from Darksword Miniatures as the warlord himself, with a standard bearer from Curteys Miniatures and attendants and a dog from Footsore. All-in-all the base will be quite busy, but it should also be impressive. No one gets close to the king!

Cheers!
